The rectifier/controller converts the alternator's AC voltage into DC power for the onboard computer. This keeps the battery charged and prevents bulbs from blowing, etc. This part is exposed to extreme temperatures and can often be damaged. If the rectifier/controller is faulty, the battery is constantly drained and, on some ignition systems, the ignition will no longer work, the bulbs will go out, or the light will flicker.
